Information for Competitors

The Univest Grand Prix is an international pro road cycling stage race competition for men. The race was amateur for the first eight years and became an UCI professional event in 2005. Now in its 14th year, it is one of only eight professional UCI (International Cycling Union) races on the USA Cycling Professional Tour calendar. The Univest Grand Prix is open to UCI Professional Continental, Continental, National, Regional, and Club teams by Invitation only. The Race Direction focuses on bringing together North America's best Mexican, Canadian and US of A racing teams and mixing them with excited and motivated challengers from Europe. The racing at the Univest Grand Prix is always tactical and brutally hard. In 1998 three riders contested the finish: since then, only two-man sprints or solo rides have won the race.

Many young riders have won professional contracts with their performances at the Univest. The race will always strive to maintain its position as a gateway to the pros for driven young talent.

The area community is involved through athletes staying with local families and visiting grade schools to speak about their sport.

The race weekend begins with a team time trial in Allentown, which together with the Univest Grand Prix on Saturday make up a stage race with UCI points on offer.

The Univest Grand Prix features start to finish live television coverage on Universal Sports, UniversalSports.com, WFMZ-69, and WFMZ.com.

The highly successful Univest Criterium of Doylestown will be in its sixth year in 2009 and is open only to competitors that finish the Univest Grand Prix road race. Rider substitutions are prohibited for the criterium.

Interested team managers should contact Sparta Cycling at amy@spartacycling.com.

The races will only be open to Pro/1 riders only. Riders will need an UCI or USAC International license to compete. Team managers will need the appropriate license from the UCI or USAC to drive a car in the team caravan. Please see UCI regulations 1.1.077 & 2.2.035 or this USAC webpage. There will be no exceptions to these regulations.
